Since 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) has operated under the belief that inherent in every child is incredible potential. As the nation’s largest donor- and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities across the country.
Locally, New Jersey is proud to have six BBBS agencies serving every county in the state. Joining in a spirit of collaboration, these form the Big Brothers Big Sisters State Association of New Jersey

Our six New Jersey-based agencies are dedicated to expanding services, ensuring every child who needs and wants a mentor has one.
Together, through collaboration and investment in mentoring initiatives, young people can access the tools and opportunities they need to become thriving members of a more equitable and prosperous society.

Visit WebsiteBig Brothers Big Sisters agencies across New Jersey offer a variety of mentoring opportunities designed to meet the unique needs of young people, volunteers, and communities. While programs may vary by agency, mentoring programs generally fall into two categories: community-based, one-to-one and site-based.
Community-based mentoring focuses on one-to-one friendships built through shared experiences and consistent connection. Bigs and Littles spend time together doing activities they both enjoy, whether that’s exploring a hobby, attending community events, playing a game, or simply talking and spending quality time together. Matches typically meet a few hours each month, with flexible scheduling that can accommodate evenings, weekends, or other available times.
Site-based mentoring takes place at designated locations such as schools, libraries, community centers, workplaces, or college campuses. Matches meet on a regular schedule in a structured setting designed to encourage conversation, connection, and personal growth. While activities and formats may differ by location, the focus remains on building supporting relationships that help young people feel seen, encouraged, and empowered.

Mentorship reshapes futures, strengthens communities, and drives economic progress. Together, we can change the odds and build a better tomorrow.
